As a poker room manager I get pitched a lot of ideas. I’m sort of used to it because during the heady dotcom days I worked for AOL and then later for eToys . When I would go to industry conferences and mixers every dotcom millionaire wannbe would try to corner me and tell me the idea that ...

Rini talks about the scam
artists that flocked to him over the years. I imagine many or
most would settle for or prefer a stock market infomercial. I am not
saying all these poker teaching sites that have sprung up are pure
scam. The advice is, I'm sure, excellent. But, it is the same info
that you can garner from most of the books out there. More
important, years from now the vast majority of those players will be
at the level they would have been without it. ...

Riding the F Train —
... At first blush I was less than impressed. I don't care about team jerseys, which come included with your buy-in; I'd rather see that money put in the prize pool. The team-scoring concept, while a somewhat novel way of potentially spreading the prize pool around a bit, seems gimmicky; here I simply refer you to Bill Rini's excellent post Eight Tips on Pitching Your Idea to an Online Poker Room. The price point of the tournament ($550 per player) seems high enough to drive away three casual players but low enough not to interest the marketable "big name" pros. ...

Back in the Money(maker) Again
pokerplayernewspaper.com 8/16/2009 — The man who set it all in motion, Chris Moneymaker, the man many people claim is at least partially responsible for poker's boom over the last six years, is in the money again. On July 27, the affable Tennessean won Event No. 9 at the World Poker Open, a $500 + $50 buy-in pot-limit Omaha tournament at the Gold Strike Casino Resort in Robinsonville, MS.
It's no secret that Moneymaker has struggled since turning the poker world on its ear by coming out of nowhere to win the 2003 World Series of ...

ESPN.com's 2009 WSOP Day 1B Blog
sports.espn.go.com 7/5/2009 — 7:35 p.m. ET: Chris Moneymaker was one of the first major casualties of Day 1B. The 2003 world champ was eliminated when his 10-10 ran into his opponent's pocket aces. However, that's not the entire story. Just moments before, Moneymaker lost another key pot to the same opponent and was visibly frustrated. Seemingly steaming, his tournament quickly ended after the dealer failed to put up a 10. Walking out of the Amazon Room, Moneymaker commented that he played poorly, but he also might have been...
