The Sklansky Minute and John Cage’s Indeterminacy
Hard-Boiled Poker — Our buds Special K and Falstaff have a new podcast, peoples. It’s called the Gambling Tales Podcast and Episode No. 1 is now available. I’ve been up to my eyeballs with work, but am going to be listening to this sucker (finally) in the car this morning. I’m reading that there is some November Nine talk in there -- some pre-final table predictions, I believe, so we can listen and admire their accuracy, or goof on their folly. There’s a tale about the origins of gambling. And there’s a conversation with Bad Blood. Check it out! Speaking of podcasts, one of my ...

Odds and Ins and Ends
Special K's Place — The odds of me making my 100 post year seem to be slipping away.  I only write when I feel like it or if I have something that really needs to be said despite how I feel and that is just not conducive to a lot of posts this time of year.  So be it. I am having a hella good time with our new podcast.  The whole intent of the podcast was to have fun, go fun places, and meet people that I want to meet.  This has worked out remarkably well.  We’ve (we being Falstaff and me) posted 2 shows and recorded the tracks for 2 more.  That’s enough to get us through our upcoming Vegas ...

Doyle Brunson’s Confessions
Hard-Boiled Poker — Been absolutely up to my eyeballs with work over the last week. Have yet to get to The Gambling Tales podcast, which I’m eager to hear. Also have not seen an episode of Poker2Nite yet, but this weekend I plan to give it a look. I did manage to follow a little of that House hearing yesterday, and greatly enjoyed Pokerati Dan’s live blog of the proceedings. Definitely sounds as though the overall tenor of the online gambling debate has changed markedly, and so -- regardless of one’s views on it all -- it will be most interesting to see what comes next. I also was able to ...

Linkage and an Eye on the Prize
High On Poker — ... ’s Gambling Tales podcast. I’ve listened to the first two episodes so far and I’m saving episode 3 for the trip to Vegas. So far, it’s been a very informal affair, and its refreshing to hear some non-pros talking about gambling in general, as opposed to poker specifically. It’s a fine line and mostly poker-related anyway, but any degenerate can appreciate the wider net GT casts. ...

A gambling tale that’s been told
the die is cast — I recently recorded an interview with the crew at the Gambling Tales podcast, and it is up. Here are the details: The Poker Hall of Fame episode: James “Wild Bill” Hickok, Dr. David Schwartz, and Hall of Fame chat. Gambling Tales Podcast Show 003. .Falstaff and Special K discuss the induction of Mike Sexton to the Poker Hall of Fame and make some World Series of Poker final table observations. The Falstaff and Special K have a fun and informative interview with Dr. David Schwartz, the author of Roll the Bones: The History of Gambling. We finish with some well known and not-so-well known ...

Some last minute thoughts before Las Vegas
Yestbay1's Poker Blog — A few things to mention before my trip to Sin City this weekend: A new episode of Gambling Tales Podcast is now available. Go check it out. My plans for the weekend include the Mixed Games at MGM Friday night and the big tournament Saturday, and possibly the Steel Panther show late Friday night. I also will be checking out the Pinball Hall of Fame and Museum, probably Friday midday, and I'm considering catching one of the Mac King afternoon shows at Harrah's on Friday too. I have heard that Katitude might be working on a tour of the Neon Graveyard and that sounds like ...

Preparations and Plans #wpbt
OhCaptain Poker — Snowmageddon is bringing with it the 4 horsemen here in Minnesota. Loads of fun. Our local weather people have promised me that my plane will leave MSP as planned barring the freezing solid of the planes fuel. The forecast for Thursday is a balmy high of 9°F, that's -13°C for our Canuck friends. Those highs in Las Vegas of mid 50's sounds FANFRIGGINTASTIC! ...

The Gambling Tales Podcast Rocks
Hard-Boiled Poker — The new Gambling Tales Podcast hosted by Special K and Falstaff is up to three episodes now. The pair is cranking them out once every two weeks, and so far they’ve created three enjoyable shows. Definitely worth adding to your queue of other poker/gambling podcasts, I’d say. One aspect we amateur podcasters notice right away is how good the show sounds in terms of audio quality. They’ve fashioned a very nice set-up with regard to recording, and you’ll notice right from the first show how cleanly everything sounds in yr earbuds. That’s also some rockin’ guitar in the ...

Tao of Poker — Monday Link Dump: Betting on Tiger's Divorce, Aria & the City Center Opening, amd Poker Books By Pauly Los Angeles, CA Well it's the start of the holiday week. Here's something to kill some time while you count down the days to your Christmas vacation... Those Irish bookies will set a line on anything, because those binge-drinking punters in the UK will bet on anything. If you don't know, the lines have been set for... Keeping Track of Those Keeping Track
Hard-Boiled Poker — Ever get the feeling you’re being watched? Used to be just the paranoid few who were afflicted by this malady. But hey, it’s 2010. We may not have hover cars, but we do have Google Earth. And a ton of other ways to leave our footprints -- actual, virtual, etc. -- thus helping others track our every move. There’s been a lot of talk lately in online poker about the various tools available with which one can track one’s opponents. The big blow-up regarding that Brian Hastings-Isildur1 session from 12/8/09 -- the one in which Hastings took around $4.2 million off the mystery man in less than ...

Poker Podcasts: Gambling Tales Podcast
TripJax — Now that I drive nearly an hour and a half each way to work at least three days a week, I've started to get into iTunes podcasts.  This has helped me stay sane and made the drive much easier than it would normally be.  I'll often delve into a podcast and then suddenly I'm pulling into the parking deck or home driveway wondering how I got to work in 45 minutes flat.  Obviously that's not really happening, but it feels like time flies when enjoying a good audio show. ...

How do I stop tapping the glass?
OhCaptain Poker — Today, I was reminded for the billion time about something I've only begun to improve in my poker game. While catching up on the Gambling Tales Podcast, episode #5 contained an interview with Lee Childs. During that interview, the topic turned to a topic that an online poker company (I think) had asked him for his opinion. The topic they were discussing was protecting the fish. From how I remember it, what the card room wanted to do was rate players on their skills and group the sharks with the sharks and the fish with the fish. From the card room's perspective, this is a great idea(ish). They are ...
